Agave 'Joe Hoak Family Agavaceae Native Mexico (North America) Description Agave desmettiana 'Joe Hoak' is a relatively easy-to-grow species. A very striking rosette-forming succulent to 2 feet tall by 3 feet wide. The graceful 2 foot long leaves, which curve upward and then out, are striated with pale gray green and cream and have a strong green margin on the lower half of the leaf. Environment Agaves need full sun and gritty soil that percolates easily. They can even do quite well when potted but use an unglazed clay pot that will allow evaporation of excess moisture. Water needs are moderate to light depending upon the heat of the season but the Cactus should be allowed to dry out before irrigationIn growing season they benefit from the application of a granulated time release fertilizer that will provide nutrient to the plant. Landscape Uses Agave desmettiana 'Joe Hoak' does great in containers or in the ground. This species grows on rocky outcrops, in grasslands or pampas, on plains and walls.
