Asparagus Pyramidalis Family Asparagaceae Origin South Africa Description Asparagus setaceus Pyramidalis is a tender evergreen perennial with a bushy pyramidal upright habit. The thorny stems have bristle needle-like leaves that form triangular upright plumes, 16 to 24 inches long, with a dense fern-like feathery quality. It has air-purifying attributes. Although best known for its feathery attractive foliage, it has also small, insignificant, off-white flowers in Spring. Environment Plants perform best in organically rich, consistently moist but well drained soils in part shade (bright indirect light or filtered sun). Avoid direct hot afternoon sun which may cause the leaves to yellow. Tolerates full shade, but foliage may turn a lighter green. Landscape Use Asparagus fern makes an attractive pot plant or hanging baskets - allowing the stems to arch over the sides, for a shady area, both indoors and out.
